Self-care Guide for Busy Moms. I remember when my oldest was an infant, hours feeding and pumping and crying over low supply. Then sleepless nights and short naps. I just really wanted to be a great mom and wife, which was tough when I was constantly overwhelmed!

Oh and what about keeping my house clean, I said I would host our play date! I was exhausted!

Then I had an infant and a toddler and then an infant and 2 toddlers. Um, can we have the Playdate at the park or the library? I felt like I was getting pulled in every direction! None of us moms had time to breathe much less clean our homes! Everyone needed me ALL THE TIME! Thank goodness I had amazing women in my life going through it with me! How did we do it? LOL.

Before I knew it, I had 3 kiddos in school, where did the time go? My previous thought was, this stage is going to be much easier! I will have way more time! Um…nope! You are still busy! Although your kids are way more independent (which is no lie, it’s AWESOME), they still need you a lot! There is homework, projects, playdates, clubs, sports, you name it.

Some days I am out from sunrise to sunset. With the money we spend and all the forms I sign every week, I worry that somewhere in there I have agreed to an arranged marriage for one of my girls, maybe all three.

Listen, even if you are like us and constantly assessing your juggle, you will STILL BE BUSY! That is okay though! In order to manage this Mommy Juggle, you are going to need to take care of yourself first! Here are some tips to remind you how to keep yourself a priority! They will keep you at your best and help with keeping all those balls in the air. Use your phone and schedule this stuff in, okay!


Make Self Care a Priority!

I know, you’ve heard it all before. It is very true! Take care of yourself FIRST! That’s right, schedule your needs first otherwise they will be lost in the shuffle.


Focus on your health!

Guys, this is serious stuff. Self-Care needs to be your priority. If you are not in control of your health, no advice is going to help. We are not the same person we were before kiddos, our bodies have been through a lot. Stop googling everything and also know that your friends can only give you so much insight.

Go see a professional. I still believe that nothing replaces an in-person visit despite all of the awesomeness the web has to offer. Also, don’t be afraid. It is likely something small but when you figure it out it will make a world of difference.


Wake up early!

I used to be a morning person and it was awesome! This is no longer true. With hubby’s help (yeah, make him help or at least recruit a friend or your early bird kiddo to wake you up). You can get so much done early in the morning, it is a great time to prepare yourself for the day! Even if you have SUPER early bird toddlers, steal half an hour while they play. If all else fails, the benefits that you will reap from an episode of Daniel Tiger will be well worth it!

Stop it with the Mommy Guilt.


Be Aware of your time wasters!

I am not going to tell you to dump them all but you should really avoid overindulging. I am guilty too! “SO busy” (on Facebook) lol. Social Media if definitely my rabbit hole so just recently, I had to start setting a timer for it. Sounds silly but it helped! Others need to just take a break or maybe you need to stop altogether. Do what works for you and you will be amazed at how much time you get back.


Stay Hydrated!

Stop sipping your water, drink it. Unless you are sipping it ALL DAY LONG, you are probably not getting enough. Remember, almost 60% of your body is water. You should try to drink between half an ounce and one ounce of water per pound. So, for a 150 lb woman, try to drink 75-150 ounces a day. If I am feeling tired, cranky, bloated, or just off, I will drink a FULL LITER of water. Yes, I feel like vomiting for a little bit but then, I feel WAY better! EVERY TIME, I PROMISE!


Stay Active!

Self-care is more than a bubble bath! I don’t care how you do it and as a busy mom, I know that life keeps you active but schedule in 30+ minute’s day. I know it is tough but REALLY try! Some days, I even just break it down into 3 10 minute walks around my house. My Fitbit is awesome and reminds me when I am failing on this one. If you have a Fitbit 10,000 steps a day should be a target. If you don’t buy one and invite me to your challenge, I would love to be your Fitbit buddy.


Delegate Chores to YOUR KIDS!

My girls are 9, 10 and 12 and so much help! This is no thanks to me because being a Mom, I was trying to do it all. Ladies, stop trying to do it all! My hubby suggested this years ago and it has been so helpful and taken a lot off my plate, it is also teaching my girls responsibility. Start with having them clean up after themselves, no matter the age!


Send your kids to bed EARLY!

Now that my kids are older, I don’t make them go to sleep but they are in their rooms or their “space” by 8:00 pm. They need to stay there too. They will give you every excuse to come back and see what you are doing but don’t give in! You need that time!


Hang out with your husband!

Listen, most of us are not going through this whole parenting thing alone. So who else better to hang out with? I would love to say that we go on a date every month but, we don’t. Again, life is busy. It’s tough but it is so important to get that alone time with your man! Don’t be so quick to jump on your time waster and don’t let him either.

Focus on these, daily. It’s tough at first but keep trying and it will get easier. Remember that you have to focus on yourself first. Once you are doing that, I promise the juggle will start to get easier, even if you change nothing else. I promise! Make sure to PIN these as a reminder on for those days you need it!
