List Of Movies To Enjoy with Mom


Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate being a mom.( Day 4 of our Mothers Day series). You do not have to go out and do a bunch of things on Mother’s day unless you want to? If you are a homebody like I am, I like staying home and watching tv or movies every once in a while. Here are a few movies to enjoy with your mom or daughter. Some are tearjerkers. Break out the tissues!


1. Girl In Progress PG-13


Written By: Hiram Martinez Directed by Patricia Riggen
Starring Eva Mendes and Cierra Ramirez. As a mother and daughter who do not think about their choices before they do them and it causes them to fall apart. Good Movie for life lessons.


2. Anywhere but Here PG-13


Adapted from the book by Mona Simpson screenplay by Alvin Sargent, Directed by: Wayne Wang
Starring Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman. This mother duo has their differences and seems like complete opposites. When Adele(Susan Sarandon) moves her daughter Ann (Natalie Portman) away from the only family she knows it causes problems. This drama-filled movie will make you feel all sorts of emotions.


3. Step Mom PG-13


Story by: Gigi Levangie Directed by Chris Columbus
Starring Julia Roberts, Susan Sarandon, Jena Malone, and Liam Aiken
Isabel(Julia Roberts) marries Jackie’s (Susan Sarandon) ex-husband and father of her children Ben and Anna. The two women must put their differences aside for the children. They soon learn it is harder than they’d like to admit. All in all a great family movie for blended families. Nothing is stronger than a mother’s love.


4. Because I Said So PG-13


Written by: Karen Leigh Hopkins, Jessie Nelson Directed by: Michael Lehmann
Starring Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Lauren Graham and Piper Perabo
Dating is hard. For Milly Wilder(Mandy Moore) it is down right complicated. Her mother Daphne (Diane Keaton) interferes in her love life, setting her up with men that she approves of. She soon learns that love does not work that way. This comedy will have you laughing and loving the cast!



5. Brave PG (Disney)


Written by : Brenda Chapman
Starring Kelly Macdonald and Emma Thompson
A defiant Princess wants to go her own way and not follow the rules of the kingdom. After a witch puts a curse on her mom she must have the courage to save her mom and the whole kingdom. This comedy Disney film will have the whole family laughing and cheering!



6. Mamma Mia PG-13

Starring Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried
A musical about a mother getting ready for her daughter’s wedding. While Donna(Meryl Streep) is making plans, Sophie (Amanda Seyfriend) is inviting men from her mom’s past, to find her real father.


7. Freaky Friday PG

Starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan
A mom and daughter who are not getting a long. When on a Friday they end up switching bodies and soon find out what it is like to be in the other’s shoes. A comedy that will have you laughing and smiling until the very end.


8. The sound of music

Writers: George herdalek/howard lindsey
Starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer
A musical based on the Von Trapp Family. Julie Andrews plays a nanny who brings music and laughter into the home of a widowed naval captain and his seven children.



9. The Princess Diaries G

Writers: Meg cabot/Gina Wendkos Director: Garry Marshall
Starring Julie Andrews and Ann Hathaway
Mia(Ann Hathaway) a shy high school student finds out she is a real princess. Her grandmother is Queen of Genovia, she tries to convince Mia to become a princess and help her rule Genovia in this hilarious comedy filled with love and laughter.



10. The Family Stone PG-13

Starring Diane Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Sarah Jessica Parker, Craig T Nelson
This comedy filled film, Meredith(Sarah Jessica Parker) is going to meet her boyfriend’s family for the first time and to give her some support her sister Julie comes along. She realizes that she is trying to hard to impress them and almost decides to leave until something unexpected happens. This one will have you laughing and crying!
