How to Live In The Present

Tips on how to Live in the present

Welcome to the 5 Day Series of how to live in the present! Live More and Worry Less.

Day 1: We will talk about why living in the present moment is so important and how you can benefit from living right now.

Forget the past and the future… live right now. The past is done with. You have to move on and keep moving forward. It can be difficult but to be present and overcome stress, but it has to be done.

The majority of stress comes from made-up scenarios in your head. Stop focusing on what hasn’t happened yet. Focus on right now. Focus on your kids, they grow so fast. I know sometimes it is easier said than done, It is easy to get caught up with the what-ifs and what could have been.

Focus on Your Thoughts

What is bothering you? What do you feel is keeping you from living in the now? Work? Family issues? Stress? All the above? I get it. Your mind is like a browser a million tabs opened, and you feel bogged down.

When a computer has too many demands what does it do? It crashes. When we feel overwhelmed and stressed because we have too much on our minds we feel like crashing too.

Only you can control your thoughts and make them positive or negative. If you have a negative thought think about why you believe those things? Is there any truth to those thoughts? Probably not, sometimes we talk ourselves down so much that we can not focus on the good. For every negative thought, you have today stop and write down 5 positive thoughts.

Take up a hobby and focus on the details

Choose a hobby where you can build something ..or paint. Something that you have to pay attention to detail. This will help you focus.

Decide to live intentionally

Intentional living starts with asking yourself why. Why do you do the things you do? What values do you have? What dreams or goals speak to you?

Examples of my values would be

  • Discipline
  • Commitment
  • Reliability
  • Positivity

These values help me to determine my focus. I am committed to becoming a good writer for example. I know with Discipline I can achieve my goals. So just ask yourself what values do I hold and why?

Find Your Inspiration

Keep a journal of things that inspire you, that way you can always look back and make changes or add things to it.

When you live in the moment you start to notice a lot more too. Like maybe your spouse has a habit of biting their lip while trying to read. Or you might find out habits about yourself you never even noticed.

Take time to slow down and learn something new about the people around you or yourself. It just might surprise you.

What speaks to you? What makes you happy?

“Every day is an opportunity to make a new happy ending. May you live all the days of your life.” – Jonathan Swift

“The best days of your life will be the ones where you let your heart decide what to do.” -Linda Poindexter

“Live Life for The Moment Because Everything else is uncertain.”  – Louis Tomlinson
